Centre of Bio-Ethics

About the Centre

The Centre of Bioethics at Bhaikaka University represents a significant milestone in India’s journey toward strengthening ethical standards in healthcare and research.

Since 2015, Pramukhswami Medical College, under the University, has served as the Gujarat Unit of the International Chair of Bioethics (formerly UNESCO Bioethics Chair Program, Haifa). Building on this foundation, the unit has now evolved into India’s first Centre of Bioethics under the aegis of the International Chair of Bioethics (ICB), Porto, Portugal.

The Centre serves as an interdisciplinary academic and research hub, dedicated to promoting ethical reflection, responsible practice, and capacity building across clinical medicine, public health, biomedical research, digital health, and emerging technologies.

Vision

To foster a culture of ethical awareness, reflection, and responsibility in healthcare, research, and education — inspiring professionals and students to uphold integrity, compassion, and respect for human dignity.

Mission

  • To integrate ethical principles into medical, scientific, and public health practice.
  • To strengthen ethical decision-making in complex clinical and research settings.
  • To promote academic, research, and community initiatives grounded in respect for human dignity and rights.
