Workshop on Advancing Developmental Care in Paediatric Practice

The Department of Paediatrics, Pramukhswami Medical College, Bhaikaka University, Karamsad, in collaboration with the Academy of Paediatrics, Karamsad, organised a workshop titled “Nurture Beyond Survival: Advancing Developmental Care in Paediatric Practice” on 22nd March 2026 at the H. M. Patel Academic Centre of the University.

A total of 40 participants, including professionals and trainees from Paediatrics, Neonatology, MBBS, Occupational Therapy, and Physiotherapy across Gujarat, participated in the workshop.

The workshop was meticulously organised under the leadership of Dr. Purvi Patel, Organising Chairperson and Head of the Department of Paediatrics. Dr. Deepali Shah, serving as Secretary, played a key role in coordinating the event and ensuring its seamless execution. The programme also benefited from the valuable guidance and support of Dr. Amola Khandwala.

The objective of the workshop was to move beyond survival-focused care, to promote optimal neurodevelopmental outcomes in neonates and children, and to enhance early identification and intervention for developmental delays

The scientific program commenced with an insightful session on neuroprotective and family-centered developmental care in the NICU by Dr. Deepika Jain.

This was followed by a series of interactive workstations focusing on systematic follow-up of high-risk newborns, early identification and intervention for developmental delays, and effective developmental screening in paediatric outpatient settings, with special emphasis on autism and ADHD.

These sessions were conducted by an esteemed panel of faculty and developmental paediatricians including Dr. Amola Patel, Dr. Deepika Jain, Dr. Lopa Dalal, Dr. Vaishali Prajapati, Dr. Prarthana Kharod, Dr. Deepali Shah, and Dr.Amola Khandwala.

An engaging session on the role of play in early brain development by Dr. Amola Patel further enriched the program.

Participants were also awarded GMC credit hours, contributing to their ongoing professional development.
