Reinforcing its commitment to strengthening healthcare education in the Charotar region, Bhaikaka University inaugurated the Waymade Institute of Nursing Sciences on 7th January,2026  Tuesday. The institute has been established with the objective of addressing the growing shortage of trained nursing professionals, a challenge highlighted by the World Health Organisation’s State of the World’s Nursing 2020 report, which notes that India has one of the lowest nurse-to-population ratio globally.

The state-of-the-art institute was inaugurated by Dr. Bhikhubhai C. Patel and Dr.  Vijaykumar C. Patel (OBE), founders of the Waymade Group and Shanta Foundation (UK), along with their family members from London. The ceremony was graced by Shri Sanjaybhai Patel, President of BJP Anand District, as Chief Guest, and Guruhari Saint Bhagwant Sahebdada of Anupam Mission, Mogari, as Guest of Honor.

The foundation stone of the institute was laid in January 2024, marking a significant milestone in Bhaikaka University’s journey of academic expansion.

The event witnessed the presence of eminent dignitaries including Shri Tarak Patel, Chairman of Charutar Arogya Mandal; Shri Atul Patel, Chairman Emeritus; Shri Amit Patel, Secretary of Charutar Arogya Mandal; Dr. Gauri Trivedi, President of Bhaikaka University; and Dr. Abhay Dharamsi, Provost of Bhaikaka University, along with board members, Governing Body members, university leadership, faculty, staff, and invited guests.

Dr. Jyoti Tiwari, Registrar, welcomed the guests and explained the motive behind the establishment of the Waymade Institute. Vijaybhai and Bhikhubhai were honoured with mementos, and the guests and dignitaries were felicitated with bouquets and shawls.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Atul Patel highlighted that the project was made possible primarily through a generous contribution of ?7.5 crore by Dr. Bhikhubhai Patel and Dr. Vijaykumar  Patel. He noted that rising demand for nursing education necessitated the expansion of infrastructure and academic capacity.

Currently, the institute has the capacity to train 265 students across MSc, BSc, and Diploma Nursing programs. Plans are already in place to add 310 additional seats, taking the total intake capacity to 575 students in the near future.

He further announced that Pune-based Bajaj Holdings Limited, a financial company, has extended scholarship support to 180 students of nursing, physiotherapy, and allied health sciences at the university to support underprivileged and deserving students

During the event, Dr. Bhikhubhai Patel highlighted the global demand for nursing professionals and said, “We decided to contribute towards establishing a nursing college so that more students can benefit through education.” Dr. Vijaybhai Patel appreciated the transparency of Charutar Arogya Mandal and recalled their earlier contribution towards the Critical Care Centre, which treated more than 10,000 COVID-19 patients during the pandemic without turning away a single patient.

With a legacy of over five decades in nursing education, the newly constructed building spans more than 25,000 square feet and features modern infrastructure, including smart classrooms with Wi-Fi connectivity to enhance teaching and learning. The institute is equipped with four smart undergraduate lecture halls, specialised laboratories, Nursing Foundation and Advanced Skill Labs with advanced simulation mannequins for competency-based education and assessment, a Community Health Nursing and Nutrition Lab, a departmental library, a multi-purpose hall with audio-visual facilities, and well-appointed faculty offices.
