BU Conducts Mental Health First Aid Workshop for Faculty Mentors.
Reinforcing its commitment to student well-being and holistic education, the Department of Psychiatry, in collaboration with the Department of Medical Education, Pramukhswami Medical College, Bhaikaka University, organised an insightful workshop on "Empowering Mentors with Mental Health First Aid Skills" on June 23, 2026. The programme was designed to equip faculty members with essential skills to identify and support students facing mental health challenges.
The workshop focused on enhancing the role of faculty mentors by providing training in recognising early signs of emotional distress among students, developing basic counselling and empathetic communication skills, and guiding students experiencing suicidal thoughts towards timely professional mental health support. Through interactive discussions and real-life scenarios, participants gained valuable insights into responding effectively to students in need while fostering a supportive academic environment.
The training witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior faculty members across the constituent institutions of Bhaikaka University.
Dr. Anusha Prabhakaran, Professor ,Department of Psychiatry, Bhaikaka University, said that the university conducts such faculty development programmes on a regular basis as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting mental well-being, creating a compassionate learning environment, and ensuring that students receive timely guidance and support whenever required.
