Bhaikaka University , Karamsad organized a comprehensive program from June 2nd to June 21st, 2025, to commemorate International Yoga Day. This initiative, catering to faculty, students, and patients alike, transcended mere symbolic observance, embracing yoga as an ancient discipline profoundly relevant to modern life, particularly within a health professions university setting.
The program aimed to deepen the grassroots outreach of yoga, ensuring its inclusive practice and accessibility for all segments of society, ultimately fostering healthier lives. The activities were carried out under the esteemed guidance and patronage of Provost Dr. Abhay Dharamsi and Registrar Dr. Jyoti Tiwari. Faculty members who spearheaded the various events included Dr. Manisha Gohel, Dr. Sadhana Saraiya, Dr. Ushma Parikh, Dr. Samir Bhavsar, and Dr. Bhalendu Vaishnav. This extensive celebration aligned with directives from the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Health, emphasizing the promotion of yoga education and its integration into mainstream higher education.
Among the key highlights, a Therapeutic Yoga Program was conducted from June 9th to June 13th, coordinated by Dr. Sadhana Saraiya. This program blended conceptual discussions with hands-on yoga practices, including sukshma vyayam, disease-specific asanas, pranayama, meditation, and hasya yoga. A total of 73 participants, comprising medical students, diploma yoga students, yoga faculty, intensivists, nurses, and non-teaching staff, benefited from the program, which effectively demonstrated the therapeutic potential of yoga in managing lifestyle diseases and promoting mental wellness.
On June 17th, a Yogasan Competition saw the enthusiastic participation of 50 individuals, including students, faculty, and staff. Participants showcased a high level of dedication to yogic practice, demonstrating notable improvements in body awareness and composure under observation. Following this, on June 18th, a Yoga Garba, Yoga Twist, and Twirl with Music Session, coordinated by Dr. Ushma Parikh, engaged 90 participants who experienced both physical engagement and emotional fulfillment through the unique blend of yoga and music.
On June 20th, a Guided Meditation Session, led by Dr. Bhalendu Vaishnav, was attended by 29 administrative staff, 34 faculty members, and 30 postgraduate students. The session incorporated reflective practices, awareness-based breathing, and silent introspection, guiding participants towards a state of centered calm and rejuvenation.
Finally, on International Yoga Day, June 21st, a large-scale Yoga Sangam event was held at the Badminton Court Activity Centre as part of a nationwide synchronized event at 100,000 locations across India. This event was inaugurated by Registrar Dr. Jyoti Tiwari, and the extensive yoga practice, including foundational asanas, pranayama techniques, guided meditation, and relaxation, was led by Dr. Manisha Gohel, Dr. Sadhana Saraiya, and Dr. Ushma Parikh. A total of 150 participants, including faculty, staff, and students, participated with great enthusiasm.
On International Yoga Day, Bhaikaka University also launched a significant collaborative initiative with The Aurobindo Chair of Integral Studies, Sardar Patel University, and Children's University. As part of this collaboration, under the scholarly guidance of Dr. Bhalendu Vaishnav, the university developed and released a series of eight guided meditation videos on YouTube. These recordings were shared with Prof. Ganadhar, Chairman, NMC, the NMC working group focusing on mental health initiatives, Sardar Patel University, Children's University, the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat (KCG), UGC, and numerous other groups. By June 30th, 1200 individuals had accessed the recordings. The recordings address various age groups and well-being contexts, further extending the reach of yoga for holistic health.
