Amrita Patel Centre for Public Health, Bhaikaka University organised a one-day workshop on “Statistical Mastery with SPSS: From Foundations to Advanced Inference (Part I: Building the Foundation for Advanced Analytics)” on 20th August 2026 at the Seminar Hall. The workshop was organised with the objective of strengthening the statistical skills of health and social science researchers, postgraduate students and faculty members. The programme was chaired by Dr. Deepak Sharma, with Dr. Swati Roy serving as the Event Coordinator. Dr. Deepak Sharma and Dr. Priya Mistri served as the Resource Faculty.
The workshop adopted an interactive and hands-on approach, enabling participants to work directly with statistical datasets on their laptops while receiving expert guidance and real-time troubleshooting support. Dr. Priya Mistri introduced participants to the SPSS interface, variable setup, data importation and data-cleaning techniques, including the appropriate handling of missing values. Dr. Deepak Sharma subsequently covered computed variables, conditional recoding and data transformation techniques. The technical sessions concluded with a practical module on assessing normality through graphical diagnostics and statistical tests, providing participants with a strong foundation for further inferential and predictive analysis.
A total of 21 participants, comprising postgraduate students, Ph.D. scholars and faculty members from health sciences, social sciences and other disciplines, participated in the workshop.
