Bhaikaka University Marks World Blood Donor Day with Week-long Awareness and Donation Drive.
To commemorate World Blood Donor Day 2026, Bhaikaka University, through the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT) and A.D. Gorwala Blood Bank, Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad, organised a series of awareness, motivational, and voluntary blood donation activities from June 8 to June 20, 2026. The campaign culminated in the collection of 487 units of blood through voluntary donations, reflecting enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, healthcare professionals, and the community. Of the total, 186 units were collected through in-house donations, while 301 units were collected through blood donation camps.
A major highlight of the campaign was the Voluntary Blood Donation Drive held on June 20 at the Rotary Community Centre, Anand, under the leadership of Dr. Swapnil Agarwal, Dean, Pramukhswami Medical College. The drive was organised in association with the Rotary Club Round Town Anand and the Anand District Police. The initiative was further strengthened by the leadership and support of Superintendent of Police G.G. Jasani. Police personnel, Home Guards, GRD, and TRB personnel actively participated in the drive. A total of 306 voluntary donors came forward, resulting in the collection of 219 units of blood.
Throughout the campaign, awareness material on voluntary blood donation was circulated across the constituent institutions of Bhaikaka University. Heads of institutions coordinated Blood Donor Motivation Programmes and Pledge-Taking Ceremonies, during which students, faculty members and staff pledged to support voluntary blood donation. Awareness sessions highlighted the importance of regular and repeat blood donation, followed by the administration of the Blood Donor Pledge and distribution of pledge cards.
Adding a creative dimension to the campaign, students of Pramukhswami Medical College presented a skit at the reception area of Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad. The performance effectively conveyed the message that a single unit of donated blood can save multiple lives, inspiring patients, attendants and visitors to become voluntary blood donors.
On World Blood Donor Day (June 14), a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organised at Bhadran English Medium School, Bhadran. The programme included donor motivation, registration, blood donation and the felicitation of voluntary blood donors in recognition of their humanitarian contribution.
Continuing the outreach, a Blood Grouping Camp was conducted at Bhadran English Medium School on June 15, where students underwent blood group determination and received blood group identity cards. The programme also educated students about the importance of knowing their blood group and encouraged them to become future voluntary blood donors upon attaining the eligible age.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jitesh Desai, Medical Superintendent, Shree Krishna Hospital, emphasised that voluntary blood donation remains the safest and most reliable source of blood for patients requiring emergency care, surgeries and treatment for various medical conditions. He urged young people to adopt regular blood donation as a social responsibility and contribute towards saving lives.
