Bhaikaka University Conducts Workshop on Mental Health First Aid for Faculty Mentors in Collaboration with Indian Psychiatric Society

The Department of Psychiatry, Pramukhswami Medical College of Bhaikaka University, in collaboration with the Indian Psychiatric Society – College Mental Health Specialty Section, conducted a one-day workshop on 7th August 2025 at the university campus. The title of the workshop was “Empowering Mentors with Mental Health First Aid Skills.” 

Designed for faculty mentors across health science disciplines, the workshop focused on equipping participants with essential skills to identify, support, and appropriately refer students experiencing psychological distress.

The panel of faculty included Dr. Himanshu Pandya ( Professor of Medicine & Medical Education), Dr. Jagdish Varma (Professor & Head, Department of Psychiatry), Dr. Anusha Prabahakaran (Professor and Chairperson, College Mental Health Specialty Section, IPS), Dr. Shruti Soni (Senior Resident), and Dr. Sahil Shah (Resident Doctor).

Through role plays, case-based scenarios, and group discussions, mentors engaged with real-life examples of student mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and substance use.
