Bhaikaka University celebrates 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026

The Department of Pharmacology, Pramukhswami Medical College, Bhaikaka University, Karamsad. celebrated the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week from 17tth to 23rd September 2026 on the theme:“Promoting Rational Use of Medicine through Pharmacovigilance; A Step Towards Safer Healthcare”.

A week-long celebration was inaugurated on 17th  September 2026 by Dr Swapnil Agarwal, Dean, Pramukhswami Medical College, with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and prayer. On this occasion, Dr Alpa Gor, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology and Coordinator, PvPI, briefed the gathering about the objectives of Pharmacovigilance Week, the activities planned during the week and the trends in adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting for 2025–26.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr Harsha Jani, Additional Dean, PG Programme; Dr Dineshkumar, Additional Dean, UG Programme; Dr Jitesh Desai, Medical Superintendent; Dr Manisha Gohel, Head, Department of Community Medicine, along with senior faculty members and resident doctors.

A series of awareness and sensitisation activities was conducted for patients, healthcare professionals, students and members of the community. The activities focused on the importance of reporting adverse drug reactions and medical device-related adverse events, rational and safe use of medicines, the risks associated with self-medication and over-the-counter drug use, and the proper storage and disposal of medicines.

Pamphlets and educational materials were distributed to create awareness among patients and visitors, while theme-based videos were displayed throughout the week at the main reception corridor of Shree Krishna Hospital.

The Department also organised handmade poster, reel-making and video competitions on various themes related to pharmacovigilance. The competitions witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of Bhaikaka University as well as participants from institutions outside the University, providing an engaging platform to promote awareness about medication safety and responsible medicine use.

The celebrations concluded with a valedictory ceremony on 25th  September 2026, during which the winners of the various competitions were felicitated with certificates and prizes in the presence of esteemed dignitaries.
