APCPH Observes World Leprosy Day at Bhurakui Village

Amrita Patel Centre for Public Health (APCPH), Bhaikaka University, observed World Leprosy Day on 02 February 2026 at Bhurakui village, Petlad, Anand, with the objective of creating awareness about leprosy, its symptoms, treatment, and the importance of early detection to prevent disability and support elimination efforts. A total of 20 villagers participated in the program.
 
The program was conducted in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Utpala Kharod, Advisor, APCPH, and Dr. Deepak B. Sharma, Director, APCPH, along with faculty members, staff, and MPH students. The event was also graced by Dr. Deepak Parmar, District Tuberculosis Officer, and Dr. Manoj Mane, Senior Medical Officer, along with their team. Local representatives, including the Sarpanch Shri Naranbhai Thakor and school teachers, actively participated in the program.
 
Dr. Manoj Mane delivered an informative session highlighting the signs and symptoms of leprosy, available treatment options, and the social stigma often associated with the disease. He emphasized that leprosy is completely curable and stressed the importance of early diagnosis and timely treatment to prevent disabilities. He further encouraged community members to actively participate in spreading awareness and reducing stigma in society.
 
The program concluded with an oath-taking ceremony, where all participants pledged to eliminate stigma, promote early reporting of symptoms, and support leprosy prevention and control initiatives in their communities.
