A workshop on Essentials of Perinatology - Caring at both ends of the cord

The Dept of Neonatology - Bhaikaka University, Academy of Pediatrics - Karamsad, and Academy of Pediatrics - Anand Kheda ventured to jointly organize a Module on Mother and Newborn Care after childbirth on 3rd July 2022 at HM Patel Academic Center, Bhaikaka University, Karamsad.

This module was first organized in India under the IAP Presidential Action Plan 2022, a joint venture of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI). The course is designed to prevent infant mortality in the first month of life and to reduce maternal mortality.

The workshop was designed to provide information on how the combined care of a Gynecologist and Pediatrician can do by way of offering Perinatological care i.e. understanding the effect on the mother after childbirth and knowing how the mother should care for the child with an aim to reduce the infant mortality rate. On the basis of extensive research, it is known that three aspects are crucial for the survival of the newborn and mother: the maternity pain, the birth of a child, and the care of a child after birth.

The workshop saw participation from the National level course faculty of IAP and the Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI) including Dr. Surendra Singh Bisht, Dr. Sucheta Kinjavadekar, Dr. Bhumika Shah, Dr. Deepen Patel, Dr. Biraj Thakkar, Dr. Minol Amin, Dr. Urvangi Thakkar, Dr. Somashekhar Nimbalkar. The workshop also had significant online participation from faculty from all over the nation in addition to physical participation from Pediatricians and Gynecologists from Anand, Kheda, Karamsad, Ahmedabad, and Vadodara.
