The Neonatal and Paediatric Department of Bhaikaka University, Shree Krishna Hospital and Academy of Paediatric Karamsad, celebrated World Prematurity Day on 17th November 2025 at the Auditorium of the H.M. Patel Academic Center. The event brought together mothers and parents of premature babies currently admitted to the NICU, as well as families whose babies had been discharged over the past two years. Many parents attended with their children, making the gathering a meaningful and heart-warming occasion.
The event was graced by Dr. Jyoti Tiwari, Registrar Bhaikaka University, Dr. Jitesh Desai, Medical Superintendent – Shree Krishna Hospital, Dr. Dipen Patel, Head of the Neonatal Department, along with team members Dr. Somshekhar Nimbalkar, Dr. Reshma Pujara, and Dr. Purvi patel – Head Paediatric Department.
This year’s theme, “Give preterm babies a strong start for a hopeful future,” highlighted the ongoing global effort to improve outcomes for premature infants. Worldwide, 1 in 10 babies is born preterm, placing them at increased risk of life-threatening conditions such as respiratory distress, infections, and hypothermia. The event emphasised that preventing these complications and supporting premature babies require collective action from governments, health systems, communities, and individuals.
